Since 1970, the Earth Day movement has been mobilizing communities around the world to take concrete action to protect our planet. In honour of Earth Day—celebrated every year on April 22—we wanted to share a few of the concrete steps we have taken to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to building a more sustainable future.
Greener packaging for our hot and cold compresses
As of this year, all Magic Bag boxes will be printed on FSC-certified board. The world’s most trusted mark for sustainable forestry, the FSC Mix Label certifies that a product is made with a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and FSC-controlled wood.
“As a manufacturer of health-related products, we obviously care about people’s well-being, but we also care deeply about the well-being of our planet,” explains Marketing Director Jennifer Neveu. “With the climate crisis, we feel that companies have a big role to play in protecting ecosystems and a corporate responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of their products. The FSC label shows that we are committed to sustainability and supporting responsible forestry.”
Proud to sport the “Fabriqué au Québec” logo
Did you know that Magic Bag compresses are made right here in Montréal, Québec? That’s right, our boxes are printed in Pointe-Claire and our products are manufactured in Anjou. We are also proud to have obtained the “Manufactured in Québec” certification, which means “the last substantial transformation of the product occurs in Québec.”
Additionally, the filling is made from 100% organic Canadian grains that can be composted when your compress reaches the end of its life.
Cutting down on paper by going digital
In addition to the new packaging, the Z-fold printed insert formerly included with Magic Bag products will be replaced with a smaller insert printed on recycled paper. It will include a QR code consumers can scan to consult the instructions in multiple languages on our website.
Compresses that can be composted and upcycled
Typically, a Magic Bag compress lasts 100 uses or about two years. After that, the natural grains tend to dry out and retain heat less well. But good news! When your compress reaches the end of its life, simply cut it open and compost the grains. In addition, the cotton cover can be upcycled in a variety of ways. We think it is perfect to use as a cleaning cloth, which also helps you cut down on paper towel waste.
We believe in the power of individuals to drive positive change. As consumers, they can influence companies and manufacturers to implement tangible measures that will contribute to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future. Interested in seeing some of these changes for yourself? When your Magic Bag reaches the end of its life and you order a new one, you can rest a little easier knowing our packaging is made with FSC-certified board, that we are cutting down on paper, and as always, that your product is made locally. Just remember to compost those grains from your old compress. Happy Earth Day everybody!
